It would be equally dishonest to pretend as if Africa collectively welcomed the Trans-Atlantic slave trade as well, which is why pieces like this become necessary because people tend to engage in a lot of oversimplified narratives where African history is concerned. The existence of slavery in Africa doesn’t begin to answer the question raised about “Why didn’t Africans rescues us” because it implies that Africans were collectively indifferent about the manner in which the slave trade transformed African society or that Africans collectively welcomed such a transformation. Moreover, keep in mind that historically African societies were not “slave societies” as Athens, Rome, and the New World American colonies were.
