The IMF and the Fight Against Terror in Togo
It was recently announced that the IMF will be assisting Togo in the fight against terrorism. In recent years, there has been growing concern about terrorism and instability in Togo. The problem with the Western reaction to the rise of terrorism in Togo and other African nations is the unwillingness to recognize that Western policies contribute to this problem by intervening in Africa to topple governments and to support incompetent leadership.
Togo is a nation where the security forces contribute a great deal to insecurity and fear on the part of the citizens of Togo. This is a reality which the IMF and other international bodies overlook as they continue to work with and provide support for the Togolese dictatorship.
Poor governance is a significant part of the problem in Togo, as the government continues to terrorize its own citizens. But those international bodies which speak of helping in the fight against terrorism in Togo turn a blind eye to acts of terrorism committed by the brutal military regime.
